What to Pack for Iceland
Iceland is a beautiful place where ice and fire meet. Iceland weather is unpredictable and changes based on the time of the year. Mid October is the best time to travel to Iceland due to less crowds, it is the early stage of winter, and a chance to see the Northern lights.
Below are my packing tips for Iceland.
15 Packing Tips
Keynote: Wool is very known in Iceland and when you travel there you will see why. Merino wool layers will be the ideal. It is breathable and allows moisture to escape the body.
Accessories Essentials
- Warm Scarfs
- Ear warmers/ Earmuffs: I purchased mines from Icewear 100% wool
- Gloves: It is a must! Especially at night you will definitely need some gloves
- Wool Socks: especially if you do not have winter boots
- Versatile Bag
- Umbrella, waterproof jacket, or ponchos
- Swimsuit: For all the lagoons!
Outerwear
- Heavy coat: Splurge on the coat!! I purchased one while I was there at Icewear. A little funny antidote; I was in a rush packing for my trip and only carrying a carry on, I left my jacket at the house. I only had a light jacket because in October the weather is not cold when you come from the South. I really do love my icewear jacket. It keeps me warm and it is packable
- Down Vest: great for mobility and without bulkiness
- Heavy Turtleneck
- Wool Sweater
Layers
- Flannel overshirt
- Thermal Top and Bottom: this is essential for the trip. Thin layer to fit under your jeans.
Shoes
- Comfortable closed toe shoes
- Waterproof boots: might be slipping and sliding in some mud
