Solo Travel to Iceland
“Land of Fire & Ice”
Iceland was my first solo trip and honestly, I am so glad I took the plunge. If you are adventurous and love a little relaxation this is the place to be. This beautiful country has amazing landscapes, friendly locals, stunning scenery, lively tourism scene, and tons of adventures.
The highlights of my trip have been the Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon, Secret Lagoon, Sky Lagoon, and Frioheimar-Gerothermmal Farm.
Best Time to Visit
Choose the right season for you, based on activities. Spring, April – May, Perfect time for outdoors. Summer, June – August, is the peak season, meaning more expensive. October to September, early winter, so the temperatures will drop. The early winter season is great to explore the Northern Lights (Aurora).

Language: Icelandic. Icelandic is one of the trickiest languages. Most Icelanders are fluent in English. Three quick basic Icelandic languages.
Hello = Hallo
Bye = Bless
Thanks = Takk Fyrir
Currency: Icelandic Krona (1 ISK = 0.0079 USD) Due note currency fluctuates.
Credit Cards/ATM: Most icelanders use credit or debit cards. Wifi payment is also accessible. Some businesses accept AMEX while others do not. I would recommend getting a visa or mastercard as backup.
Plugs: Standard Europlug socket with two round prongs. You can use a “C” or “F” adapter for these plugs.
Safety: Iceland is considered one of the top five safest countries in the world.
A little something I learned from a local; Icelandic Police officers do not keep firearms on them. The firearms are kept in a lockbox in their patrol cars and can only be accessed when authorized by a ranking officer. The Special Forces is the only exception.
